Riepilogo

Windows Server 2008 (R2) and later has a defaultly active Firewall. Without firewall rules the SQL replication required for SwyxStandby is not possible because it will be blocked.

This article explains how to add a set of rules that will allow this replication.

Informazioni

These rules should be added before installing SwyxWare. Please add the following rules to Master and Standby SwyxServer.

  • Starting new rule wizard in advanced firewall
    1. Open Start -> Run.
    2. Type in wf.msc and click Ok.
    3. Click Inbound Rules.
    4. Click New Rule.
  • First rule: SQL Server (default port)
    1. As described in <Starting new rule wizard in advanced firewall>
    2. Rule Type = Port
    3. Protocols and Port
       - TCP
       - Specific local ports: 1433
    4. Action = Allow the connection
    5. Profile = Domain, Private
    6. Name = SQL Server (default port)
    7. Done
  • Second rule: SQL Server Browser (default port)
    1. As described in <Starting new rule wizard in advanced firewall>
    2. Rule Type = Port
    3. Protocols and Port
       - UDP
       - Specific local ports: 1434
    4. Action = Allow the connection
    5. Profile = Domain, Private
    6. Name = SQL Server Browser (default port)
    7. Done
  • Third rule: SQL Server (named instance port)
    1. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager.
    2. Open SQL Server Network Configuration -> Protocols for <my named instance>.
    3. Open Properties of TCP/IP.
    4. Open Tab IP Addresses.
    5. Scroll down until you will see "IPAll" node.
    6. Copy the value of "TCP Dynamic Ports", e.g. 49305.
    7. <Start New Rule Wizard in Advanced Firewall>
    8. Rule Type = Port
    9. Protocols and Port
       - TCP
       - Specific local ports: paste "TCP Dynamic Ports" value from clipboard (e.g. 49305).
    10. Action = Allow the connection
    11. Profile = Domain, Private
    12. Name = SQL Server Browser (default port)
    13. Done

To test for success please start the SQL Server Managementstudio of Master SwyxServer and connect to the SQL Server instance of the Standby SwyxServer and vice versa.
