Riepilogo

This HowTo describes the steps required for upgrading an existing single SwyxWare system to a SwyxWare with licensed Option Pack SwyxStandby.

The additional installation and configuration is set up with configuration wizards from Swyx and configuration tools of the operating system.

A license key for SwyxWare 6.00 (e. g. update key) and for the Option Pack SwyxStandby are necessary for the installation.

Requirements for the Option Pack SwyxStandby:

  • Windows Server 2003 with NTFS
  • Working Active Directory of your domain
  • NetBIOS Name support in your domain (requirement for Distributed File System)

Informazioni

Prepare your Windows domain

When using the SwyxStandby Option Pack a domain group and domain users are needed.

  • Create a SwyxWare administrators group in the domain.
  • Create a domain user account for the SwyxWare services.
  • The SwyxWare services account has to be member of the created SwyxWare administrators group
  • Create a domain user for the SQL Server Agent service.

Update the existing SwyxWare to SwyxWare 6.00 (incl. existing hotfixes):

This server will be the Master SwyxServer:

  • Install SwyxWare 6.00 on your existing SwyxWare system, using setup.exe.
  • Enter the required update key, choose options for the installation and wait until the installation has finished.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Configuration Wizard is started automatically to configure your SwyxWare 6.00. If a SwyxWare Hotfix is available cancel the started Configuration Wizard and install the currently available Hotfix version. After file installation the Configuration Wizard will be started again. (If no hotfix is available continue with the next step)
  • First you need to update the existing database.
  • When prompted to enter a user account for starting/stopping services, select the created SwyxWare services account of the domain.
  • When the Configuration Wizard asks for the 'Swyx Server Type' leave the default setting 'Standard Swyx Server', because the first step is (only) the update from your existing SwyxWare server to a SwyxWare 6.00. In a later step this server will be configured as Master Swyx Server.
  • Choose further options until Configuration Wizard has finished.

Note: During configuration of services these have to be restarted. On some systems we experienced problems in stopping the gateway service. Therefore if you get a message box that the service 'IpPbxGate.exe' cannot be stopped, open the services management tool and disable the service 'IpPbxGate.exe'. Then open the taskmanager and stop the process 'IpPbxGate.exe'. After the service is successfully stopped, choose 'try again' and the configuration of the services will continue. When the Configuration Wizard asks to start the service 'IpPbxGate.exe' again, choose 'no' and continue the configuration.

After this Upgrade your SwyxWare 6.00 has the same functionality as configured before. Install SwyxWare 6.00 Administration for viewing and changing additional configuration settings.

As last preparation step, enter the license for the Option Pack SwyxStandby via SwyxWare Administration.

Configuration of the SwyxWare Option Pack SwyxStandby:

Installation of the Standby SwyxServer:

  • Install a new (second) SwyxWare 6.00 on a separate system.
  • Configuration Wizard is started automatically to configure your SwyxWare 6.00. If a SwyxWare Hotfix is available, cancel the started Configuration Wizard and install the currently available Hotfix version. After file installation the Configuration Wizard will be started again. (If no hotfix is available continue with the next step)
  • In the Configuration Wizard choose 'Create empty database'. The existing database will be replicated to this Standby system.
  • As 'Swyx Server Type' select 'Standby SwyxServer'
  • When prompted to enter a user account for starting/stopping services, select the created SwyxWare services account of the domain.
  • When prompted to enter a domain group, choose the created SwyxWare administrators group of the domain.
  • Enter the NetBIOS name of the previously installed SwyxServer as Master SwyxServer.
  • Keep the default standby services configuration setting (switching with all services from master to standby system, when IpPbxSrv.exe service fails).
  • Click Next until the Configuration Wizard is finished.

After finishing the basic configuration, the additional Standby Configuartion Wizard is started (for Standby Swyx Server):

  • Enter a domain administrator account for the displayed domain, to do the necessary configuration steps in the domain (DFS, FRS)
  • Enter a user account for the SQL server agent service (this configures database replication). Use the created SQL Server Agent domain user account.
  • When the summary of configuration data is displayed, confirm these and finish the configuration on the Standby SwyxServer. Now the Distributed File System (DFS) service and the File Replication (FRS) service are started on the local system.

Installation of the Master SwyxServer:

  • Start the Configuration Wizard on the previously installed SwyxServer: Start | All Programs | SwyxWare | SwyxWare Configuration Wizard.
  • When the Wizard asks for the 'Swyx Server Type' choose 'Master SwyxServer'.
  • When prompted to enter a user account for starting/stopping services, select the created SwyxWare services account of the domain.
  • When prompted to enter a domain group, choose the created SwyxWare administrators group of the domain.
  • Enter the NetBIOS name of the Standby SwyxServer.
  • Keep the default standby services configuration (switching with all services from master to standby system, when IpPbxSrv.exe service fails).
  • Accept/change your configuration in the further steps and click Next until the Configuration Wizard has finished.

When the Configuration Wizard asks for trying to start the service 'IpPbxGate.exe' again, choose 'no' and continue configuration.

After completing the basic configuration, the additional Standby Configuartion Wizard is started (for Master SwyxServer):

  • Enter a domain administrator account for the displayed domain, to do the necessary configuration steps in the domain (DFS, FRS)
  • Enter a user account for the SQL Server Agent service (this configures database replication). Use the created SQL Server Agent domain user account.
  • Additional configuration parameters for the Distributed File System are needed. Enter the necessary configuration depending on the existing environment (Windows domain, Active Directory, Distributed File System).
  • When the summary of configuration data is displayed, confirm these and finish the configuration on the Master SwyxServer. Now the Distributed File System (DFS) service and the File Replication (FRS) service are configured and started on the local system. And the SQL server agent service is configured.

Last but not least the operating system configuration dialog of Distributed File System (DFS) is started to set up the File Replication (FRS) for the created SwyxWare DFS:

  • Right-click the SwyxWare DFS share and select 'Configure Replication'
  • Choose where the staging folders will be stored and choose the initial master for the File Replication. Here the Master Swyx Server system must be selected, because this system has the initial user files to be replicated to the Standby Swyx Server. Then click next to continue
  • Leave the default topology 'ring' selected and finish the File Replication configuration.

Note: Changing any DFS settings or services user accounts after the successful SwyxStandby configuration may lead in an inconsistant system state. Therefore do not change a running system without important reason

If you had to disable the service 'IpPbxGate.exe' during installation/configuration open service management and check that the startup type is set to 'automatic' again and that the service is started.

Wait until the database and the user files are replicated to the Standby SwyxServer.

Check the PhoneController configuration to ensure that the SwyxPhones will register to the Standby SwyxServer in case of a failure.

Grant users/administrators access to the SwyxWare Administration

  • To grant access to the SwyxWare Administration configure the relating user(s) to be member of the created SwyxWare administrators domain group.
  • Additionally the administration level has to be configured on each SwyxWare system locally. Add the relating user(s) on both systems to at least one of the local role member groups (refer to the detailled description of administration levels in the SwyxWare Administration documentation).

Issue: In the local role member groups only users can be entered. Entered groups and their members will not be resolved!

Conference Manager Service on Standby Server

Installation of SwyxWare 6.0 without Hotfix

  • On the standby server open the services management tool and set the startup mode of service 'SwyxConferenceManager' to 'Disabled'. Then stop the service 'SwyxConferenceManager'.
Note: If you run the Configuration Wizard again this step has to be repeated.

Installation of SwyxWare 6.0 with Hotfix

  • Open a registry editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Swyx\ ConferenceMgr\CurrentVersion\Options and set ConferenceUser to the account of the conference user as configured on the master server. This value can be found on the master server within the aforementioned registry path.

Restart of Standby SwyxServer

Finally restart the SwyxServer service (IpPbxSrv) on the standby system.

Now the system is operational.
